Porcelain Veneers FAQs
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are custom made thin shells of porcelain that are permanently bonded to only the front surface of the tooth to enhance the color, shape, length and size of your teeth. Some compare the concept to fake fingernails, but they are custom designed and made by a dental ceramist for your teeth. Like natural enamel, these thin, glass-like veneers are translucent and light-absorbing, which creates a natural and luminescent appearance. Porcelain veneers are excellent for restoring the appearance of teeth that have been damaged due to injury or that are discolored, chipped or misaligned. Any dentist who has had extensive training in cosmetic dentistry can make you look younger and more attractive with this option. You can have the beautiful, natural-looking smile you’ve always wanted with porcelain veneers.
How Long Does The Porcelain Veneer Procedure Take To Complete?
Your porcelain veneers will require two visits after your initial consultation. Depending on the dental lab that your dentist uses, your veneers can be made in 7-14 business days. If you really need an instant smile makeover because of a special occasion, a demanding schedule with limited time, or you are traveling from out of town to see your cosmetic dentist, some labs can even make your veneers in just 1-2 business days for an additional rush fee!
How Much Do Porcelain Veneers Cost?
Porcelain veneers will typically cost between $1,000 and $3,000 per tooth. The fees will vary depending on what region of the country you live in, as well as how skilled your cosmetic dentist is. Cheaper veneers are usually provided by dentists who are not using top notch dental labs and ceramists to custom make natural looking veneers, or dentists who are not as skilled.
Does Dental Insurance Cover Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are considered a cosmetic procedure that is generally not covered by dental insurance. However, if your teeth have been affected by a medical circumstance such as taking certain antibiotics like tetracycline that stain your teeth or if you’ve suffered a severe accident, your dentist may be able to submit a letter with the history of your medical circumstance along with photos to attempt to get partial coverage.
Does Dental Insurance Cover Dental Implants?
Dental Implants are sometimes considered a cosmetic or surgical procedure that is not covered by dental insurance. However, surprisingly some dental insurance plans will indeed cover approximately 50% of the cost of the implant surgery or restoration of the dental implant. Check with your dental insurance provider directly or ask your dental team if they can inquire about your dental insurance benefits for dental implants.
